4th of July is the scariest holiday of the year!

You might think of Halloween when you think of scary holidays, but for most of our 4-legged friends, the 4th of July is terrifying! This is the busiest time of the year for anyone involved in animal rescue. All of the shelters will see a dramatic increase in dogs and cats that need somewhere to go. Many of these animals are owned pets who would normally never run away, but the loud pop and bang of fireworks will quickly send that pet running for his life! Many animals end up far from home and the owners may never find them.

While we always sing the praises of microchips, even just a simple collar with your name and number could save heartbreak down the road. If you don't have time to get a tag, just write on the collar with a marker! Make sure all of your doors and gates are secure and bring your pets in if you are not outside with them during this noisy, scary time of year.

If you do find or lose a pet, make sure you post them online in your local lost and found sites, as well as hang posters in your neighborhood. Contact all of your local shelters and vet offices as well.

We hope you all have a safe and happy holiday, but please remember, not all your furry neighbors like the noisy fireworks!
